Welcome

Hello and welcome to my blog! I’ll be using this space to voice my thoughts and questions about my projects and other topics that interest me. I hope you find them engaging too.

But first, I’d like to introduce myself.

A black woman with short black hair wearing blue jeans and a white top stands on black stairs leading up to a red brick building.

Hi, I’m Eshe. I’m a Black Canadian anthropologist. My work on Black identity, race, and gender is deeply personal and undeniably public, and I hope it will remain that way. I use the tools provided by anthropology to make sense of my surroundings and look for solutions to problems that hinder Black women and our communities. I find this process beautiful, taxing, humbling, and deeply fulfilling.

I am also a storyteller, and a budding archivist who is constantly thinking about legacy—what we carry with us from the past, and how to use it to inform our future. As someone born into two cultures and who has been embedded in a third for many years, I think of myself as an interpreter, a translator, and well-versed in riding the highs and lows of residing in middle.

I temper the hard knocks with music, mangos and small batch chocolate, and time outdoors.

Thanks for joining me on this journey!
